Jen's 2015 Year of Reading

2015 Reading and Bookish Resolutions
If you are interested, I have included my original 2015 reading resolutions post in which I go into detail about each of the goals I set for myself, and also the updates that I did in March and June.

Goodreads 2015 reading challenge: 200 books → COMPLETED
According to GR I ended up reading a grand total of 277 books in 2015.
Of those, 247 were new to me books and 30 were re-reads.
The genre that I read the most from was fantasy, with contemporary and dystopian coming in second and third place respectively.

Read 100 books that are at least 200 pages in length → COMPLETED
Out of all the books that I read in 2015, just over half (143/277) of these were novels that met the criteria for this goal. The remaining (134/277) books were a mixture of novellas and short stories, graphic novels and manga, audiobooks, compilations or collections of stories and companion books.

Read all TBR Jodi Picoult books → COMPLETED
In 2015 I had 8 books by Jodi Picoult that I had not read. I’m so happy to have accomplished this goal and read all of those books because some had been sitting unread for 7 or 8 years and now I no longer have that constantly at the back of my mind.

Complete at least 15 series/trilogies → COMPLETED
Series completed in 2015 (19)
Legend trilogy by Marie Lu
Losing It series by Cora Carmack
The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater
Wake (or Dreamcatcher) trilogy by Lisa McMann
Ruby Red (or Precious Stone) trilogy by Kerstin Gier
Matched trilogy by Ally Condie
Hex Hall trilogy by Rachel Hawkins
Slated trilogy by Teri Terry
The Books of Pellinor series by Alison Croggon
The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare
Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
The Testing trilogy by Joelle Charbonneau
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
Ten Tiny Breaths series by K.A. Tucker
Mara Dyer trilogy by Michelle Hodkin
Fallen series by Lauren Kate
Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder
The World of Beatrix Potter: Peter Rabbit series by Beatrix Potter
Elixir trilogy by Hilary Duff

I also read the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. I didn't include this as one of my completed series because the series itself is not yet complete, but I did read up to the most recent release.

Read at least 1 classic → COMPLETED
Towards the end of the year I felt a sudden urge to read a whole bunch of children’s classics so I definitely ended up reading a lot more than one classic!

Start and finish all Cassandra Clare books → COMPLETED
Having so many unread books by this author sitting on my shelf was daunting at first and partly why I kept putting off reading them. However I am so glad I pushed myself to finally just pick up the first book and start reading because The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices in particular turned out to be two of the best series I have ever read.

Get TBR pile down to at least 50 books → DID NOT COMPLETE
At one point my book buying had become so out of control that it was impossible to keep up with reading them all and I actually abandoned this goal partway through the year because it was no longer realistically achievable.

Read more unread books than I buy each month → DID NOT COMPLETE
I was actually doing all right with this goal until the months where I started buying more books than it was physically possible to read in a month so I ended up abandoning this goal as well. Instead, I just focused on reading as many books as I could each month, which relieved a lot of the pressure that I had been putting myself under.

Jen and Mel’s 2015 TBR Challenge
After watching a few Booktube videos I thought it would be a fun idea if I chose 5 books from Mel’s TBR list for her to read and Mel chose 5 books from my TBR for me to read. I am very proud of the fact that I read all of the books that Mel picked for me, especially because it was a successful way of getting me to read a few books that might still be sitting unread on my shelf otherwise!

Although it wasn’t a necessary part of the challenge, where Mel had chosen a first book in a series for me, I went ahead and read the rest of the books in that series and completed several series that way!

And finally, the books that Mel chose for me:
Legend by Marie Lu → read in January
Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult → read in February
Matched by Ally Condie → read in April
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin → read in October
Fallen by Lauren Kate → read in November
